General Rules
- The Northeast Arkansas District Fair offers six educational exercises in which you may enter on an individual basis or as a team.
- To be eligible to enter, individuals must live in one of the Northeast Arkansas District Fair Counties and must be enrolled in grades 4-12.
- There is no limit on the number of individual youths who may enter from a county; however, teams are limited.
- Only one team per county or organized group (FFA, FCCLA, or 4-H) may enter each judging contest.
- A team is considered three or four individuals judging together in a particular event.
- If four members participate, the lowest scoring individual will not be included in the total score.
- Registration for all contests except Tractor Driving must be completed by 10:00 am Wednesday, September 27, 2023. (Please refer to the Tractor Driving Contest Rules for more detailed information.)
- The Youth Judging Contest will be held on Wednesday, September 27, 2023.

NOTE: NO CHECKS WILL BE DISTRIBUTED THE DAY OF THE CONTEST. ENTRIES MUST HAVE COMPLETE SCHOOL ADDRESS ON THE REGISTRATION SHEETS SO CHECKS CAN BE MAILED AT A LATER DATE. PERSONS IN CHARGE OF EACH ACTIVITY MUST PROVIDE A COMPLETE LIST OF WINNERS AND THEIR SCHOOL ADDRESS TO THE FAIR OFFICE AFTER ACTIVITY IS COMPLETED.
Contest Categories

The Seed Identification section will consist of seed samples displayed for identification.
These will be selected from the 4-H Publication B-301, 4-H Crops Judging and Seed Identification.
The Crops Judging section will consist of marketing classes and planting seed classes.
Each class will consist of four samples. Crop species and judging criteria will also be from the 4-H publication B-301, 4-H Crops Judging and Seed Identification.

Beef, swine, sheep, and/or goat classes will be used based on availability. All combinations could be possible such as market or breed class in each division. Team members will be required to give oral reasons on one class of livestock. To compete for high points, individual contestants will need to give reasons.

Chemical weed control measurers require all of us to know the names of many weeds since some chemicals will control certain weeds and not others.
Common weeds will be on display for identification as to their proper common name. Twenty-five fresh samples of summer type weeds will be chosen for the contest. Scoring will be numerical based on 100 points. Participants are encouraged to use correct spellings and complete common names. Registration will begin prior to 10:00 am on Wednesday, September 27, 2023. A reference that can be used for contest preparation is Extension Publication MP-169 “Weeds of Arkansas Lawns, Turfs, Roadsides and Recreation Areas”. Contact your County Extension Agent for further assistance.

- Entrants must be a member of 4-H.
- Pumpkins and watermelons must be registered at the fairgrounds from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm Monday, September 25, 2023 and must stay on display during the duration of the fair.
- Pumpkins or watermelons that are damaged due to rots, punctures, etc. will not be eligible for district or state weigh-ins. The criteria for conducting the weigh-in will be actual weight of quality watermelons or pumpkins.
- Only the Atlantic Giant variety of Pumpkin will be considered for the district weigh-in.
- Only the Cob Gem variety of watermelon will be considered for the district weigh-in.
- Each District Winner will be awarded a trophy, one for the Big Watermelon and one for the Big Pumpkin. Second place through fifth place winners will receive ribbons.

- All contestants must pre-register by sending application forms to Cooperative Extension Service, 611 E. Washington, Suite A, Jonesboro, AR 72401 by Friday, September 22, 2023. Registration Form
- There is a limit of 3 entrants per club or school unless the limit is not reached.
- The contest is limited to the first 25 applicants.
- Contestants should be from Grades 9-12.
- Contest will consist of a written examination covering safety and maintenance and a tractor driving contest consisting of maneuvering a 2-wheel trailer.
- A liability release signed by a parent or guardian must be submitted with application before the contestant will be allowed to participate.

Contestants should learn to identify the common insects, both harmful and beneficial. The contest will consist of the identification of insects as to order and common names. Correct spellings of both the order and common name are very important.
