JUNIOR AND OPEN COMPETITION

NOTE: Open Sheep must be in place by 10:00 a. m. Monday, September 19, 2016.

Open Sheep judging will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 20, 2016 in Barn #1.

Open Sheep will be released at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 21, 2016.

Junior Sheep must be in place by 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 21, 2016.

Junior Sheep Weigh-in Times Will Be At 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 22, 2016.

Junior Sheep judging will be at l: 30 p.m. Thursday, September 22, 2016 in Barn #1.

Junior Sheep will be released at 12:00 Noon Saturday, September 24, 2016.

 

1. Competition in this department is open to only Northeast Arkansas District Fair entries.

2. All sheep must be pre-registered by Friday, September 2, 2016. Mail to: Northeast Arkansas District Fair, P.O. Box 2397, Jonesboro, AR 72402.

3. Exhibitor entries in the OPEN Sheep Division can be brought in Sunday, September 18, 2016.

OPEN sheep entries must be in place by 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 19, 2016.

The OPEN Sheep Show will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 20, 2016.

4. Exhibitors may not receive more than two awards in any single class and not more than one award in any group class.

Animal’s in-group classes must be entered and exhibited in their respective single class.

5. To constitute a Breed Show, there must be a minimum of 5 animals and 2 exhibitors. If 5 animals are not represented, these animals will show as All Other Breeds.

6. All entries in this department shall be subject to the general rules and regulations of the Northeast Arkansas District Fair Association.

7. All breeding sheep must be registered in their respective association and wear the association ear tag. Registration papers must be in possession of exhibitor or a letter from breed association stating that registration is pending.

8. No combination of breeders in filling group classes will be tolerated.

9. All animals must be clean, slick shorn, or neatly trimmed at time of show.

10. Individuals in lamb classes must have lamb teeth and be born after September 3, 2014. Yearlings may have four (4) teeth.

11. Juniors may show in the Open or Junior Department, but will NOT be allowed to show in both categories. All entries must be on the appropriate department entry form.

12. Blankets will be removed after the show unless the animals are to appear in another show within a short period of time, or at the Superintendent’s discretion. Sheep will be inspected on grounds. No sheep showing symptoms of disease, particularly foot rot, wool fungus, sore mouth, sheep pox, and scrapie will be allowed to show.

13. Federal Law requires ALL Breeding Sheep, over 18 months of age and sexually intact sheep for exhibition, to have an official USDA tag or official tattoo PRIOR to movement.

14. All exhibitors (junior or open) must have owned and taken possession of their animals at least 60 days prior to the fair.

15. All animals must be shown, cared for, and groomed by the junior exhibitor; only other junior members, parents, Agri

teachers, County Extension Agents, or 4-H Leaders may assist.

16. All other breeds (AOB), section H, shall be defined as any registered sheep meeting the requirements above, but

which do not meet the requirements for a breed show.

17. ALL PRIZE CHECKS WILL BE VOIDED AFTER 90 DAYS.

18. The Fair Association is not liable for loss, damage, or injury to any exhibit or animal during the show.

COMMERCIAL BREEDING SHEEP SHOW

1. Commercial Breeding Sheep will be defined as sheep not eligible to be registered in a breed association, or which do not have registration papers.

2. Age will be determined by teeth. All lambs must have lamb teeth. Yearlings may have four (4) teeth.

3. Commercial Breeding Sheep must abide by the general rules of the fair as well as the rules of the sheep department.

4. No non-registered intact males will be shown.

Market lambs will be proportionately broken into classes after weigh-in.
